In a game between two national champions, the better one turned out to be from Cyprus. AEL Limassol defeated Anwil in their arena in front of 3000 spectators 54-68.

The game was close until the last quarter. However, it was the guests who played better and kept a small advantage although Anwil kept close to their opponent despite lots of turnovers and missed shots.

After the first two quarters Limassol had only missed four 2-point shots(13/17- 76 %). The result at half-time was 33-36 and the best scorers for the two teams were Armands Skele for Anwil, who had 11 points and for the the guests Davorin Dalipagic with 12 points.

After the break Anwil had their big five minutes: Vladimir Krtsic scored from behind the arc and the host team lead 45-40. But then, Darrin Fowlkes answered with a three-pointer and from this moment on the game was very close. At the end of the third quarter, the guests led by a very smal margin: 50-52.

The last ten minutes were a real shock for the Anwil fans. Their players could hardly score any points and even missed from easy positions. At the same time Milutin Aleksic, together with Duane Woodward, played great zone offence and scored most of the points for Limassol. The advantage for the visitors quickly became secure. In the last four minutes Anwil didn’t score at all and the Cyprus champions finally won 54-68.

Nevertheless, Anwil stays on the top spot in Group B of this year’s FIBA Europe League with a record of 7 wins and 3 losses. Limassol keep their chance to reach the second round having now won 5 out of 9 games
